D.L. was awarded posthumously a medal of valor, rewarding his bravery in saving a six-year-old girl.
About
Four Months Ago...
Micah holds the medal at his dad's funeral. His cousin, Damon, asks if he can touch it, but is put off by Micah's expression.
Truth & Consequences
Micah tells Niki that D.L.'s medal will help her get stronger. When he goes to retrieve it, he finds it, along with his backpack, missing. He tells Niki that it is missing.
Later, when Damon tells Micah that the backpack with the medal in it was stolen, Micah gets angry and punches him. Damon offers to get him another one, but Micah responds by asking if he can get him a new dad too, and that he hates Damon. Nana says she's going to call the police, but Micah decides he wants to get it on himself.
That night, Monica tells Micah she knows where the thieves live, and that she can retrieve the backpack, and the medal. Monica sneaks into the house and gets the backpack, but is captured by the thieves.
