In chapter 1 of The Civilian, Katie watches as Officer Mills tries to rescue her cat Wilbur. She encourages Rachel to climb the tree and rushes to get her some lemonade. When she returns with her father, Rachel is climbing down with Wilbur and Katie becomes extremely happy.
