Sedation is the ability to cause a victim to fall into a hypnotized or sedated state.

Limits

Samson first demonstrated this ability on a rabbit that he was going to use for his taxidermy business. When he released the rabbit from its cage, he concentrated and whistled as it attempted to run away, causing the rabbit to stop in its place. Samson later used sedation on his son while attempting to acquire Sylar's ability to regenerate. After pinning Sylar to a wall, Samson extended his hand towards him and whistled, causing Gabriel to drift off into a sedated state of semi-consciousness. It was later revealed that Sylar was simply "playing possum" and was able to overcome being sedated. (Shades of Gray)

Notes

• In a Behind the Eclipse session, writer-producers Joe Pokaski and Aron Coleite said that Samson's whistling power was "kind of like a Siren's Song, lulling their prey into a hypnotic state."
• Therese Bryne's Heroes: Survival profile describes her ability as "induced sleep and soporifia", which may or may not be the same as this ability.
