- I don't think there's anything wrong with saying "Janey Pierce". An estranged mother-daughter relationship is different than a brother-sister relationship. They've never said that she was a half-sister or step sister, so there's no reason to assume that. And if she is married, then she was at one point called "Janey Pierce".
