+ Maarten worked for the Company and many of the members of the group of twelve have been involved with the Company.
- He would have no reason to change his name during his work with the company, the different names indicate that they're different people.

+ Maarten could just as easily be a nickname.

- The artist Travis Kotzebue said that his brother Jordan was the model for Maarten, but Travis "put a cool Burt Reynolds mustache on him". If Maarten was the same person as Carlos, he would've used the actor playing Carlos as the model, not his brother.
+ The actor could be portraying an older version of Carlos Mendez. Maarten could represent what he looked like at the time.

Maarten will meet Peter. Future Peter has the power of pyrokinesis. (Five Years Gone) + There is no reason for Meredith to return to the show, but Maarten might still work for the Company (as Ivan still did).
- Meredith appears in The Butterfly Effect.

- Maarten has only had one appearance so far.
- In an interview, Joe Pokaski and Aron Coleite have said that Peter did indeed inherit the power of pyrokinesis from Meredith.

Maarten is related to Meredith and Flint. All of them have pyrokinesis.
