Hey Mish,
If you include the datestamp in your sig, then you should sign with three tildes instead of four to prevent a double datestamp.—Hardvice (talk) 16:47, 14 November 2007 (EST)

  • AHA!!! I knew I was doing something wrong I just couldnt place it. Thanks. Mish(Talk), 16:49, 14 November 2007 (EST)
    • Hey Mish, you are storing the date and timestamp using the local variables, however, that changes constantly. I don't think you should include the date and timestamp in your sig.—MiamiVolts (talk) 16:54, 14 November 2007 (EST)
      • If you want to format them, you can just stick subst: in front of them, like this: {{subst:LOCALDAY2}}. If that gives you problems, you may need to use "subst magic". Lemme know and I'll give you a hand.—Hardvice (talk)
        • Yeah, Hardvice is right, you can keep them in your sig if you use subst: and some inclusion magic. I just updated your sig on this page to the correct time, but you need to edit your "autosig". Inclusion magic is necessary, or else you will end up with a fixed time stored in your "autosig" file.—MiamiVolts (talk) 17:01, 14 November 2007 (EST)
        • I went ahead and got rid of the Date/Time stamps. Sorry guys, still learning. Is this markup specific to Wiki? OR is it PHP? —Mish(Talk) 17:12, 14 November 2007 (EST)
          • That's okay. Most of the Wiki's coding that you can't see or edit is PHP, but the code/markup you see and edit is specific to wikis and the MediaWiki software. PS: If you are interested in downloading and examining the PHP, you can do so for free here.—MiamiVolts (talk) 18:17, 14 November 2007 (EST)
            • So is it ok to use PHP to markup comments and such? It kinda looks like a big regexp/replace function is executed on the text and turned into the stuff we see. I would enjoy looking at the code behind it all. Thanks for the link.—Mish(Talk) 07:55, 15 November 2007 (EST)
            • Answered my own question through some testing....—Mish(Talk) 15:47, 15 November 2007 (EST)
              • Just be to sure, you can't use PHP to markup comments, but HTML comments (i.e. <!-- and -->) do work.—MiamiVolts (talk) 16:01, 15 November 2007 (EST)
                • Yeah, I tried to use the PHP tags with the date function...it came out literal so I figured it wasn't. Thanks for the info —Mish(Talk) 16:10, 15 November 2007 (EST)
