In a world where computer sciences, information technology, and genetics are dominating the global economy... Nathan Petrelli plans to attract corporations and fledgling upstarts in various fields to the 30th District so it can stay on the cutting edge of the new economy.
With two young children in school, Nathan Petrelli knows the value of a quality education. With schools in the 30th District facing record class numbers, aging facilities and declining test scores, Nathan has developed several innovative ideas to bring more money and more educators to our schools while making schools accountable to the people who matter the most – the students and their parents. However, Nathan's education plan doesn't stop with a high school diploma. Developing an economy for the information age won't payoff without a large investment in workers who are ready to meet the challenging demands. To that end, Nathan will support an adult education program to help make his constituents citizens of the global economy.
Under the current system that leaves million of Americans uninsured and under-insured, Nathan Petrelli understands that the status quo cannot go unchallenged. Medical problems are indiscriminate in striking so Nathan will fight for coverage for all his constituents, regardless of their age, income or employment. With a history of depression in his family, Nathan also understands the importance of community outreach for mental health issues that come without judgment or stigma.
Protecting Our Country
Our nation faces a myriad of threats at home and abroad – some of which we've yet to realize. In dangerous times likes these, our country needs leaders who understand the value of vigilance without compromising our rights and privacy. Nathan Petrelli understands these new threats and will work hard to develop plans to counteract them.
On the Move
The right to vote is the fundamental principle upon which our democracy is based. Countless Americans have devoted their lives to ensure that every citizen has the right to be heard in this country. Yet, even today, countless voters are turned away at the polls, registration rolls are incorrect and incomplete, and voting machines are tampered with. Nathan Petrelli will fight for a fair election, but he can't do that without your help. If you see voter intimidation, polling places closing early, or any other suspicious activity, don't ignore it. Report suspected voter fraud in the 30th district here. If someone else's vote isn't counted, how can you be sure that your vote will?
"Senator Petrelli has a commitment to upholding and honoring the rights of the citizens of New York. He has a very thorough understanding of the world and current events. He's an excellent leader and serves as a positive example for all members of Congress."
Serving in the US Senate
I would like to extend my warm and sincere appreciation to the citizens of New York City for your patience and support. Woodrow Wilson said, “The destiny of America is always safer in the hands of the people than in the conference rooms of any elite.” My decision to return to serve the great state of New York as a United States Senator allows me to extend my message of hope and progress to even more Americans. Together, we can build a brighter future, not just for New York but for all of America.
On May 14, 2007 Hana Gitelman hacked the website and added a notice claiming Nathan is a puppet and that the election is being rigged.
On May 14, 2007, Nathan Petrelli's campaign sent out the following voice message to Heroes Evolutions participants:
Hi. This is Nathan Petrelli, and I'm running for Congress. You know, I believe our children deserve a better future. A future where they don't have to face their fears alone. A future where they can look into the darkness and find hope. Help me build this brighter future. Let's do it together. Let's show them all exactly what we're capable of. For more information about my campaign, please visit votepetrelli.com. And again, thank you for your time.
A Heartfelt Thank You
After the election the website was updated with a thank you and Nathan's victory speech:
I would like to take this space to thank everyone who voted for me on election day. To me, your votes are each a clear message that you want something different in Washington, and that's what I promise to deliver. Of course, this mission would not have been possible without everyone who made my campaign a reality - for all your dedication, hard work, and tears, you have my deepest and most sincere thanks.
And regardless of who you voted for, I promise to be everyone's public servant for the next four years as a member of the United States Congress.
Nathan Petrelli's Victory Speech
A landslide! That's what they called it! During my campaign I spoke a lot about family. My mother is here tonight, my wife, and the boys. I'm sorry my brother can't be with us. But I know Peter cares about this city more than anyone. Our father always said we had a responsibility to use what God gave us, to help others, to make a real difference in the world. Pop believed in making the hard choices, for the greater good. So do I. Our children deserve that. They deserve a better future. A future where they don't have to face their fears alone, but can look into the darkness, and find hope. I challenge everyone here to inspire by example. To fight the battle, no matter the cost. The world is sick. It's spinning out of control. But with our help... it can heal. With our love, compassion, and strength. So let's put aside our differences, and embrace our common goals. Let's do it for our children. Let's show them all what we're capable of.
Nathan Steps Down
Nathan stepped down from his elected position with this message:
My fellow New Yorkers, it's been a long and hard journey to the top of the mountain, and I thoroughly appreciate everything you have given me and have done for my family and I. This state is the archetype of this country, and has allowed for more opportunity than I ever thought imaginable. Winning the election on November 2nd was a thrill that I will never forget, nor would I want to. It's something that will remain with me, even as I make the following statement.
In all the decisions I have made in my public life, I have always tried to do what was best for New York and its citizens. Recently I have encountered a situation that renders me unable to put the best interest of New York as my number one concern. Without going further into further details, I am resigning from my elected seat as Junior Senator of New York state, effective immediately.
This was never my intention, and I want all of you to know that my desire to do the right thing for the people of New York, the same quality that won my election, is the same desire and urge I have right now. Please do not worry about me or my family. While there are extenuating circumstances to explain my abrupt change of heart, I do not wish to delve deeply into any of my reasons, as they are personal. And in these hard times, privacy is important for my family.
On February 17, 2009, votepetrelli.com was updated with a hidden pop-up message corresponding with iStory "The Agent". Visitors to the site can see the pop-up message by clicking the middle image (which has an added red border around it) under the "Meet Nathan Petrelli" headline. When clicking that image, a text box pops up that displays the message "RUN HOWIE. REBEL."
In chapter 2 of The Agent, Rachel Mills reviews "Senator Petrelli's website" and finds a hidden message looking her in the face after some searching. She wonders aloud who "Rebel" is.
- votepetrelli.com states that Nathan is running for the 30th District of New York. However, Nathan leaves a message for Chandra in which he says he is running for the 14th District. (Don't Look Back)
- Nathan pledges to be "everyone's public servant" as he serves his four-year term in the US Congress. Members of the House of Representatives only serve for two-year terms; Nathan would have to be re-elected to serve four years. US Senators serve for six years, but Nathan was not elected to the Senate.
- Nathan's resignation letter says he's resigning as the junior Senator, but he was elected to the House.
- The Heroes Evolutions site also lists Nathan's residence as being in the 30th District. It also states that he lives with his mother. However, Nathan and his wife live in Hyde Park, NY. Angela lives in Manhattan. (Nothing to Hide)
- According to information on the site, Nathan was in the United States Navy as an officer and a pilot. He served tours of duty in Bosnia, Serbia, and Rwanda.
- The site also notes that Nathan served under the district attorney as a prosecutor, where he "put many criminals behind bars."
- The death of his father is listed as Nathan's motivation for running for Congress.
