Most...annoying GN...evar

  • Anyone notice the kid using the OLPC XO?--Bob (talk) 00:04, 6 November 2007 (EST)

Woot!

Omnilingualism!--Riddler 00:06, 6 November 2007 (EST)

To yak or not to yak!

So can and did Trav talk to the yaks? In the animation, he says that the yaks didn't have much to say. I'm not sure if we can take that as evidence of communicating with animals. Opinions?--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:30, 6 November 2007 (EST)

  • I think it was more of a clarification that he cannot communicate with animals. --Piemanmoo 15:32, 6 November 2007 (EST)

How to Get It

  • Might we not want to mention that, like we did with The Rogue?--Hardvice (talk) 00:25, 6 November 2007 (EST)
    • Hmm, and how to get it? I'd like to know that! --Looky 09:04, 6 November 2007 (EST)
      • Yes, especially since there's a new novel Quarantine at: http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/downloads/Heroes_novel_058.pdf --MiamiVolts (talk) 09:51, 6 November 2007 (EST)
      • There was an email from Hana to Evolutions participants with this link (since no explicit sign-up was required this time, apart from signing up for Evolutions emails, I think a direct link is OK). It takes you to the GN, which is sadly only animated/interactive (boo). I've been able to extract half of the pages from the flash file, but the resolution sucks (not much better than screenshots of the pages), and the other pages seem to be assembled from individual images which aren't all sized to match. Boo.--Hardvice (talk) 13:17, 6 November 2007 (EST)
        • That's true. I'm disappointed they didn't add a pdf version. I know people who are on dial-up and will probably not read it, and that's a shame cause it's a good novel.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:32, 6 November 2007 (EST)
        • Each person got a different link, I think studiopass counts who uses what link. -Lөvөl 13:47, 6 November 2007 (EST)
        • Are the images individual JPGs like the pages in the other graphic novels? If so, is there a list or links to them? Even low resolution would be useful for here. -Lөvөl 02:22, 20 January 2008 (EST)
          • I think it's just a flash file, no jpgs. The only jpg I've ever seen of it is this from Joe Tolerico, which appears to be some sort of screenshot of the pages flipping. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:12, 20 January 2008 (EST)

Animation info

There's more info. in the graphic novel's animation, this time, than is viewable in large comic-style view (ie. the city names in India and Bhutan), and a couple cool views of the moon, one with the symbol on it. Cool visual and audio effects too. Nice touches on the lightning strike and the fireplace flames.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:24, 6 November 2007 (EST)

Order

I think this novel should be 58b instead of 57b, since this graphic novel came out this week instead of last.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:39, 6 November 2007 (EST)

  • Yeah, but it definitely came out between Team Building Exercise and Quarantine, not after Quarantine--and that's what "58b" would imply.--Hardvice (talk) 13:12, 6 November 2007 (EST)
    • How about 58a instead? 'advance' instead of 'bonus' issue?--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:16, 6 November 2007 (EST)
      • 58 anything is still going to sort after 58.--Hardvice (talk) 13:17, 6 November 2007 (EST)
        • Technically, you can add a |sort=58b for Quarantine and a |sort=58a for The Last Shangri-La to make them sort properly.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:23, 6 November 2007 (EST)
  • I just followed the same format for this novel that was used for The Rogue. It works fine and is clear, especially considering that the order is explicitly listed in both template:GN and in the infoboxes. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:35, 6 November 2007 (EST)
    • But it's not clear, 57 to me means 'Week # 57', and this novel was clearly released in 'Week # 58'. The Rogue is ordered correctly cause it was released after the novel it was published with.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:41, 6 November 2007 (EST)
      • I have to say it has never even once occurred to me that the GN number equals the week number. Now I understand what you're talking about. I still prefer 57b, but at least now I understand what you're talking about.--Hardvice (talk) 15:47, 6 November 2007 (EST)
        • Ok, I added a couple notes about it for clarification purposes.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:07, 6 November 2007 (EST)
          • But it's not actually the correct week since there have been weeks without a graphic novel. The note of explanation works well. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:10, 6 November 2007 (EST)
            • I don't think it should be in with the regular order, since they don't have chapters. Have an extra section at the bottom of the order and label them "extra" or "special" or "bonus" comics.--Riddler 23:28, 6 November 2007 (EST)

I'm Confused

  • How can the man Trav found not be Drucker, from what I saw, "Goose" looks different than the mysterious man depicted in this novel, further more there is no evidence in the "Golden Goose" that directly correlates that "Goose" was the man Trav found. And even the man admits to being Drucker, how can NBC make such an erroneous claim that "Goose" was the man Trav found when there isn't even any evidence, "Goose" could've easily lied to Bob.--Dman dustin 02:20, 30 January 2008 (EST)
    • It is very confusing, but just because there's no evidence doesn't mean that NBC is making erroneous claims. The man Traveler meets in The Last Shangri-La and the man that Bob turns gold in The Golden Goose actually are very similar in looks--I mean, they both have long hair, right? And actually, nobody ever admits to being Drucker in the novel--Traveler just assumes the man he meets is Drucker, just like we assume the same thing.

Traveler (narration): Drucker was nearby. His imprint was clear.

Man with long hair: I believe you have a message for me?

Traveler: Yes, from one Hana Gitelman. Apparently you're related.

The man with long hair reads the message and the novel ends.

True, Goose could have lied to Bob, but we have evidence (from NBC) that shows that Drucker really did die in the plane crash. Plus, consider that if Drucker were really alive, he could not have turned his consciousness into a purusha and communicated with Hana in the Company's mainframe; both he and Hana are dead, or at least their bodies are. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:16, 30 January 2008 (EST)
