Image Deletion Policy

  • I think as a policy we should refrain from deleting or tagging for deletion any images. Images are shared between the localized versions of Heroes Wiki so it's not immediately clear whether a given image is still in use or not. Storage space is plentiful, so we don't need to worry about the space images take up. (Admin 23:46, 31 December 2006 (EST))

      • Hmm... let's see what others think about it. Personally I think that unused images aren't really that big a deal so it doesn't matter if they show up in Special:Unusedimages, but I'm always open to other opinions. (Admin 00:19, 1 January 2007 (EST))
        • It certainly doesn't hurt to have them floating around unused, but it might not hurt to have an Island of Misfit Images that people can check before uploading a new image.           • Great points. I wasn't aware that so many pics are used on foreign language sites (thanks for the link, Hardvice). As for tagging images: is there any way to remove Special:Unusedimages from the special pages? If possibe, this would be beneficial for two reasons. 1, images that are used on other sites still show up as not being used. 2, some images show up there that are embedded, but used in a gallery, as a thumbnail, as a sidebar pic, etc. It's a very misleading page. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:25, 1 January 2007 (EST)


Archiving

      • We haven't really discussed archival policy at all yet, so I guess it's a good time to start. My suggestion is that if we're going to archive we archive only entire sections that do not have any new comments since the cut-off date. So for Talk:Sylar for instance my recommendation would be to leave the entire original Brain Eating section until the point where we go to archive it and it's no longer active. Just taking the recent comments could become messy and doesn't preserve the context of the original comment. (Admin 22:12, 2 January 2007 (EST))
        • That's a great point. The previous discussion would useful. I'll go ahead and restore those old comments.

          With the exception of the aforementioned comment about Sylar's diet, the other most recent comment was a congratulations on the Main Page from User:DeweyQ on Dec 23. Before that there wasn't really anything since about the 20th, and certainly nothing that wasn't relevant (mostly just talk btwn Hardvice and me on the Category talk:Plot Points page.

          • No toes stepped on. :) If anything I think it's nice you're cleaning up the talk pages. We'll probably have to setup an archive template to standardize the archives soon. Keep them orderly in a nice table... plus probably include a list of the discussions that are contained in each archive to make it easier to find a given archived discussion from the talk page. Archiving talk pages

  • Now that we have Special:Longtalkpages, when should we look at archiving talk for non-user pages? Is there a good cut-off? or should we wait until they start tripping the 32kb warning?--Hardvice (talk) 15:34, 2 February 2007 (EST)
    • That sounds about right. Or if the TOC is reaching the bottom of the page. However, on a case-by-case situation, we should probably leave some. For instance, the discussion over at Talk:Empathic mimicry is getting long (though not long enough to archive quite yet, I know). However, there's a possibility the talk might start up again after a new episode where Claude calls Peter an empath. We should probably just use good common sense in cases like those. Other than that, 32kb sounds like a pretty good guideline, and even comes with a built-in warnting! — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:23, 2 February 2007 (EST)

Timeline Deletion

Check out Category:Articles for Deletion. A few timeline-related articles, and the timeline category have all been nominated for deletion. MediaWiki Upgrade

          • Weird. So I used a jump redirect (April 24th jumps to Timeline#April 24th), and the "back" button on my browser reported that I had been to Timeline 6 times. Very odd. Edit Summary Shortcuts

I added some shortcuts we can use for edit summaries to link people to the appropriate help article:

That way, if we make a correction for tense, we can enter an edit summary like "change Help:tense" and the user will have a link to explain why the change was made.--Hardvice (talk) 15:15, 24 January 2007 (EST)

Prophecy Test Pages

Very fair assessment. Test3 by far has the best layout, and is quite easy to maintain, in my opinion. I'm very willing to convert the whole page, but not tonight, and probably not until this weekend. Theories Pages

The theories pages are a bit of a mess. They need a good going through for grammar, links, standard formatting, and the like, but given how frequently they are edited, it's hard to do more than a section or so at a time without hitting an edit conflict. Right now, I'm settling for the occasional spell check, but the whole section feels very uneven and disconnected. Would it be acceptable to temporarily protect each page, add a notice that it's undergoing maintenance, and give each one a very thorough scrubbing? We could do it on an off day (what's our slow day, anyway?) and at night so it would be of minimal inconvenience.--Hardvice (talk) 00:48, 7 February 2007 (EST)

Sounds reasonable to me. Just whip up a template you can throw at the top of the page real quick announcing that this article is currently locked for cleanup and that it'll be available again in x period of time. I'd protect one page at a time and clean it before protecting the next so that we don't lockout all the theory pages all at once. As for a slow day, it looks like Sunday's the slowest day. The slowest time (independent of day) is around 5am EST. (Admin 00:55, 7 February 2007 (EST))

Okay, I did the shorter ones (Items, Events, Powers). I'll do People and Misc tomorrow unless somebody else wants to take them on. I have discovered a downside in this plan: I'm so freakin' tired at this time of night that I can barely type coherently, let alone copy edit (so it might be a good idea for somebody else to give them a good looking-over). In addition to checking spelling and grammar and adding links, I tried to consolidate repetitive information, remove outdated information, remove information wholly irrelevant to the theory being discussed, and clean up the "Evidence" column (should be canon evidence only; other evidence goes in Comments) and provide citations for it. I added another new template ({{refneeded}}) for information for which we can't find a source (only one example so far, and I'm pretty sure it's just wrong). --Hardvice (talk) 04:20, 11 February 2007 (EST)

Dashes & Other Characters

  • Hardvice, Ryangibsonstewart: I notice you change certain characters in the article text such as dashes from a dash into their HTML counterparts. What's the reason? Do these characters cause problems in any instance not being converted into HTML? The wiki does automatically convert certain characters (such as ampersands) into their HTML counterparts on the fly, so I'm just wondering why the articles are using the HTML?     • Not that I know of. But an emdash looks better (and is more consistent with print media) than a double dash, and a single dash is just a hyphen, and, according to typesetting conventions, shouldn't be used in place of an emdash. We could just paste in an emdash character instead of the escape code, but I have no clue how to type one directly from a keyboard.--Hardvice (talk) 21:21, 15 February 2007 (EST)
      • I change a lot of the hyphens into em dashes because, as far as I understand, a hyphen is usually grammatically incorrect when used to separate words. For instance, it would be wrong to say "Niki - a stripper - is a bad mother." It would be correct to use the em dashes: "Niki — a stripper — is a bad mother." A hyphen is used (among other things) to combine words: "Niki is an ex-con." "Peter has emo-style hair." I don't change them because I prefer the HTML over plain text, it's for grammar reasons. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:31, 15 February 2007 (EST)

ImageMap extension

  • FYI if there's any use for this extension that provides support for image maps, let me know and I'll check it out. I know of one instance where it would have saved Hardvice a bit of time cutting up a picture. :) (Admin 05:31, 1 March 2007 (EST))
    • That seems pretty cool. I like that it can define circles and especially polygons. It doesn't seem to work in Opera, though, and I know we have some Opera users. Other than that, it looks nice. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:00, 1 March 2007 (EST)
    • It's certainly clever and it would save us from needing a bunch of extra images. It also would have made the portal templates a lot more streamlined, since we wouldn't have had to mess with all of the fixed positioning, invisible text links to get the images to link, but that's largely water under the bridge at this point. I guess it's something to think of the next time a need crops up, but I have to say it sounds nice, even if just for adding links to whole images.--Hardvice (talk) 13:32, 1 March 2007 (EST)

Captchas

  • Because we're starting to get some automated spam bot registrations here, I've added captchas to the user creation process to help protect against these spambots. Granted they haven't actually gotten spam through because of other precautions we take, but it's still a nuisance having them create all those accounts. Since it's only on account creation it shouldn't be a huge deal since people will only have to go through it once. If you see any problems, let me know. (Admin 13:10, 10 April 2007 (EDT))
    • Looks like the captchas have done a nice job stopping the spambot registrations. Plus we're getting new legitimate users as well, so they seem to be working well. Very nice. (Admin 17:58, 11 April 2007 (EDT))

Caching

  • I'm testing out what benefit we see with Squid caching on the frontend. As long as nothing breaks the test will be running through the weekend including Monday and Tuesday to see what kind of benefit we get Monday night during the weekly post-episode traffic surge (which was actually enough last week to slow things down a little right after Heroes aired on the east coast). If you see any strangeness with the site, please let me know. Also with the way it's setup there shouldn't be any cases of stale articles since the cache is still checking for any changes each time. I switched it over just a little while ago, but it will take up to 6 hours for everyone to be running on the cache. (Admin 12:40, 4 May 2007 (EDT))
    • The caching appears to be helping. We've had even more traffic this week than last and the load on the server seems to be much lower this time around. A correction to my last comment, it doesn't check for changes to articles every time, but it doesn't need to since MediaWiki will tell Squid to purge an article from its cache when it's modified. The caching has definitely helped with serving the images so now we don't have to let a fat Apache process (with PHP) sit around longer than necessary handling returning the images, Squid will just handle them itself when possible.       • Do you know how Mediawiki handles changes to includes? If we change a template, does it automatically mark all of the articles which include it to be purged, or is there a chance we're caching the old version? Or does it actually compile the articles on the fly as far as included content is concerned (it doesn't seem like that would work for included categories and such).         • Changing a template invalidates all pages from the cache that transclude that template (see here). I also believe that in general articles with transclusions are compiled on the fly albeit I believe with certain internal caching optimizations. I know that a side-effect of transclusion is that it increases load on the application, but I don't think it's appreciable until you're a site like Wikipedia. (Admin 18:54, 8 May 2007 (EDT))

Patrolling and new sysops

I must say that with the addition of our new sysops, it has been so much easier and less daunting to visit the recent changes. I have given up on trying to look at every change made to the wiki, as I was able to do in days past, but that's inevitable with growth. Quick question--is there any way to un-patrol an change? I'm just thinking I sometimes accidentally patrol something that needs to be fixed, but don't have time to do the fixing right then. Searching without redirecting

Is there a way to negate the search feature from redirecting to a page that is the word you are searching on? In other words, if I want to search for all pages that use the word 'Clairvoyance', I am hosed if I type it in the search box, because it doesn't return the search results for that word....but rather, it redirects to that page. Is there some special way to negate doing a redirect when wanting to search via common words that exist as page-redirects? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 05/15/2007 15:39 (EST)

upload file?

Hello, I'm a relatively new user! I'm a 9W user and I've recently put together genealogy charts for several Heroes families tracking the special abilities trait. The thread with attachment is here. I'll edit the charts throughout season two as we get more information. I'd like to upload them into the wiki but I need some advice. I currently have the charts in a powerpoint file and in a condensed pdf version. What would be the best format for the wiki? Can I upload a file or only images? There are 12 pages.           • Actually, I just tried adding something to the page HTML which might be necessary for IE 7 to check for a favicon. Try forcing a page refresh or close and reopen your browser and see if it downloads the favicon now. (Admin 12:43, 8 September 2007 (EDT))

Heroes Wiki upgraded from MediaWiki 1.10 to 1.11

  • I've upgraded all versions of Heroes Wiki from MediaWiki 1.10 to 1.11. Please keep an eye out for anything that may have broken and enjoy some of the new features. Release notes are here. (Admin 23:01, 29 September 2007 (EDT))
  • I also added MediaWiki:Edittoolstop which is just like MediaWiki:Edittools except it will show up right above the textarea instead of below it. (Admin 23:12, 29 September 2007 (EDT))
  • Some interesting changes include:
    • Easy access to your edit count in Special:Preferences.
    • When selecting the destination filename during image uploads, if there's already an image with the name you've selected a thumbnail of it will be displayed.
    • [[Image:]] now accepts a border option to create a border around the image.
    • <gallery> will accept HTML attributes now.
      • I noticed that when scrolling through the diffs, you can patrol needed pages. Before, you could pretty much only access the patrol link through RCs. That makes patrolling so much easier (especially after a new episode)! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:06, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Unused images

  • I'm noticing we have a ton of unused images over the last few episodes. I went through the uploads for Fight or Flight and made sure everything that could be used on existing articles was used. This is actually a pretty quick project (particularly if you do one episode at a time), so I'm not sure whether it merits setting something up in Current events or if we should just knock it out ourselves. Once we're done using the obvious ones, we can look at Unusedimages and see if whatever's left just needs to be AFDd or what.--Hardvice (talk) 05:26, 24 October 2007 (EDT)

    • I think after we do an initial check and use as many images as possible (good work, Hardvice), there's nothing wrong with putting something in the current events--a note at the very least. It's too bad special:unusedimages doesn't allow the images to be transcluded like special:newimages ({{special:newimages/12}} allows the first twelve images, for example to be seen on the page, but doesn't actually count as being used). the power to rename pages.

Who has the power to rename pages? Two of the apartment pages in "Portal:Apartments," namely Caitlin's apartment and Isaac's apartment, are mis-titled as such: Issac's because (correct me if I'm wrong) it is referred to as a loft in-universe, and Caitlin's because it is referred to as a flat in-universe and would be called that in Irish English, if I am not mistaken. I'd like to rename these/see them renamed to reflect the in-universe nomenclature but I don't know how/who can. --SacValleyDweller 01:43, 26 October 2007 (EDT)

  • First, start a discussion about renaming in the talk page or add the Template:rename to the page. Second, all you have to do is move the page. At the top, next to the history tab, there should be a move tab if I'm not mistaken.--Bob (talk) 01:49, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
  • Anyone has the ability to rename an article using the "move" link at the top, however since it's a significant change it should usually be discussed on the article's discussion page first as Bob said just to make sure there's consensus (or at least not disagreement) on the change. Since article names are prominent mistakes are often caught early so if a page has been named a particular way for a while there could be a good reason for it so it's best to discuss first. To draw attention to a rename proposal there's Template:rename that can be included ({{rename|towhat=NEW ARTICLE NAME}}) at the top of the article to encourage people to check the discussion page. Changing Usernames

Is it possible for you to enable the changing of usernames? I capitalised the 'X' in my name, but the system automatically capitalised the 'E' too - however I can't change my name.   • Changing usernames is something I have to do at the database level, MediaWiki doesn't provide a user facility for doing it. However the first letter of any article/username will automatically be capitalized. However you can still use User:eXplicit and it will work since it will automatically capitalize it when someone clicks on it. If you still want it changed, let me know. RC Patrol

  • Question for the administrators: Do you think it would be helpful to have an additional potentially larger group of people who, while not having administrator control, have the ability to patrol the recent changes? Basically people that can be relied on to at least identify obvious problem edits and patrol the good ones so we know it's been looked over by someone with some experience on how things are done here?     • I know that the large amount of patrolling needed is in the fan powers and theories. So, if we actually decide on deleting the former, then I wouldn't see a problem with what we have right now.   • There's nothing wrong with your signature. It's just a little...long...on the talk pages. It can easily be fixed by creating a page called "User:SacValleyDweller/autosig", then typing in {{User:SacValleryDweller/sig}} and saving the page. Then you can go to your preferences and change the nickname to "{{SUBST:User:SacValleryDweller/autosig}}". Cascading protection and DPL

  • The only MediaWiki help I found about cascading protection are this page on Wikipedia and this page on MediaWiki. The latter says that cascading protection protects all templates and images that are used on the page to be given cascade protection, along with the page itself and all of the templates and images used in that page; the former only discusses transclusion in terms of pages, so I'm not sure if transcluded images count here or not (0.). A couple other questions come to mind: 1. Does cascading protection lock subtemplate elements/images even if they are used in a noinclude section of a used template? (I'm not sure...) 2. Since the current version of DPL marks all pages it searches through as "used", cascade protecting a page using a wide-ranging dpl search could conceivably protect most of the existing pages of the Wiki as a side effect. Has anyone tested if this is true? (I'm not sure, but I'm interested to know.)--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:21, 4 February 2008 (EST)
    • Ok, so basically if you go to edit an article and the page shows up in the list of templates/articles that this page includes then they will be protected by the cascading protection. So, yeah, this isn't very good for pages using DPL. For instance in Current events the cascading protection ended up protecting Adair Tishler even though she doesn't actually show up anywhere on the page. (Admin 13:59, 4 February 2008 (EST))

      • Remember, only administrators are able to actually mark edits as patrolled. That was my reason for asking a while back whether I should setup a new group of consistent and reliable editors whom we could add people to more liberally than we do administrators and would be able to assist in patrolling edits.     • Being my last semester in school, I've buckled down and really tried to stay focused (that and work), so I kind of browse now and again and patrol any pages that are randomly edited.   • With the new patrollers group, I'm thinking that we're also going to have better summaries. When faced with a mountain of unpatrolled edits in the past, I've often either skipped reading episode summaries on character pages, or accidentally marked them patrolled just to get them out of the way, trusting that the editor has done a good job. Now, I feel less pressure to whittle down a huge list of unpatrolled contributions, so I also feel like I can do a much better job at quality control.     • Yeah, I think the amount of work required for patrolling was disproportionate to the number of administrators.   • Newbie question....stuff like profanity, or obvious spam, etc...do we have a policy for how that is dealt with, removed, reported, etc? However, in the end, disciplinary action for profanity, vulgarity, vandalism, and that kind of stuff is an administrator's job. One of the jobs of a patroller, though, is to unofficially be the eyes and the ears of the wiki and to let the administrators know of anything you might see as a blockable offense. Changing categories

Hi there, I'm an administrator of the German HeroesWiki. We have a lot of articles with wrong categories. Now my question, is there an "easy" way to change them into the right category? Or do we have to change every article one by one. Thanks for any help. --Muffin84 06:51, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

  • It depends on how the categories are assigned. If they are actually listed on the page, then yes, each one will have to be done individually. (A bot would help greatly with that task.) However, if the category is assigned through a template, then it's just a simple switch in the template. For instance, on this wiki, the category Category:Images of Elle needed to be switched to Category:Images of Elle Bishop. Since almost every image in that category is assigned through template:image-screenshot, it really just required one change to the template, and then a few stray images which had the category manually assigned. On the other hand, Category:Heroes 360 Images needs to be changed to "Category:Heroes Evolutions Images", but since most (or all?) of the images in this category are manually assigned, it's a much larger task.     • Well, the more I go through our categories, the more I see it's a pretty big mess... So I guess it can't be automated as far as I know at the moment.       • You know, the German wiki is listed as having 1,471 articles. At a quick glance, the categories don't seem to be too far off. For instance, most of the comics are in the right category, and it looks like the character category is pretty correct. Right there, that eliminates much of the problem. If the problem is simply changing a category name, I'd be more than willing to help out, just let me know. If the problem is that some articles are assigned to the wrong categories (which is what it sounds like), I can help out, but I'd need some help with translation. Just let me know what you'd like me to do, and I'll certainly help out. MediaWiki upgrade 1.11.2 -> 1.12.0 tonight

  • I'm planning to update MediaWiki from 1.11.2 to 1.12.0 late tonight. I've been testing it for a while on a staging site and it seems to be working well. They made some major changes to the parser between 1.11 and 1.12 and in the process broke the functionality for several extensions we use. Fortunately it's possible to configure the new version to use the old parser so we should be ok. Keep an eye out tomorrow for any odd behavior and let me know if you find any problems.       • I tracked down the bug in the newer version of ParserExtensions that broke ifexists, too. I fixed it in my test environment, but I'm going to wait for the maintainers to fix it upstream so that I can be more confident that there's active development going on with it. Otherwise I'm just going to stick with the current version. This is the comforting thing about MediaWiki being open source...     • Everything looks good to me. One thing you can do is view the page source and at the bottom will be an HTML comment "Served in x secs." that tells you how long the server took to render the page.     • I think it's working correctly, though I don't know if the behavior changed (read: was fixed) in the newer version. Check the Sandbox now. First off, PAGENAME is a MediaWiki variable, so it's within {{ }} and not {{{ }}}.     • What do we use image redirects for exactly? There's a "feature" that supposedly makes redirects work in the Image namespace, but they worked before... so maybe whomever changed it considered the old behavior to be "broken".       • When we have a large image and a cropped or smaller version of that image, the small version normally has a redirect to the large image so if it is clicked on from a thumbnail gallery or sidebar, you go directly to the larger image. Time after time, it boggles my mind how quickly summaries, extensive plot details, and loose discussion pages get organized into neat profiles!

A Question

  • That's really a question that's better for a different talk page, but I don't know of anything that says Sylar absorbed empathic mimicry. In It's Coming, Arthur told Sylar that he has to access his empathy in order to absorb powers without killing.     • Oh, I just thought that since he was able to copy Elle's power through empathy that it was empathic mimicry he was using. Is what Sylar did in It's Coming really different from Peter's power?       • If Arthur meant that, he certainly wasn't very clear. I think the biggest difference between what Sylar did with Elle in exam room 1 and what Peter does (or used to do) is that Sylar had to actively concentrate to take the power. Peter absorbs the power, even if he doesn't want to. Featured Articles

I'm just wondering why we don't have featured articles on this Wiki, as there are featured articles on Wookiepedia, Memory Alpha(well, it's an Article of the Week) and even Wikipedia. I think that it would be a great way of highlighting our best articles, and really make the Wiki loook like Wikipedia (not that it has to, obviously, I just think it would be a great idea). I realised that there mightn't be much space on the main page, but I think that it could go where the "Did you know" box is, or below that but before the categories in a wide box that wouldn't take up too much space. I think it is somone at my school, because after I got my log in I tried to get to this page website and instead of this mainpage I had a page that showed a bunch of photo graphers and other menue options. I just created a new login and a new email but neither my main page nor my discussion page are showing the new to heroes wiki page.   • This doesn't sound like a problem coming from the HeroesWiki server. Since you seem to be the only user affected, whatever is causing your problem is apparently on your computer. You should probably run a virus scan or something. Watching segments

I looked up sylars disscusion page and I saw that there were a bunch of segments, I think that if someone were watching a segment than it would be a pain to get to it if you didnt remember the name.I thnk that we should put both an edit button and a watch button on each one so if one were to be changed it would be easier to spot, instead of looking and finding out that a minor edit happenned on the top one when your watching the bottom. I also think you should make it so that changes are highlited so that it would be even easier.P.S. we found out who the hacker was and they got into may GA credit recovery, not heroes.--Autobot2 09:51, 23 April 2009 (EDT)

  • Can I suggest that user: Irony be recommended to become an administrater. He is very helpful, he will answer and assist any queries you put to him. He is a patroller at the moment (a very good one I may add) but I believe and I am sure others will as well that his work rate and attitude on Heroes Wiki merits an administrater place.

SpaceBro14

I didn't know which administrator to come to, so I decided to come to all of you at once. User:SpaceBro14 has deleted the content from at least (from what I can tell) five character pages, among them, Angela, Meredith, and Elle. I won't change them back so that you can see what was done, I just want to see the user banned, because this CLEARLY was no accident. He wrote for the edit summaries "removed all content from page," even daring to put "replacing all content with 'ass'" for Micah's page. I hope to see this person be punished in some way, thank you, Skullman1392 02:48, 1 July 2009 (EDT)

Deletions

User:Ryangibsonstewart has been deleting character season history pages and restoring the histories on their page to include every episode (most notably Rachel Mills). I was going to restore them as they were (with season summary and the link to the episodic summaries) but the episodic summary pages were deleted, and I couldn't restore them. I think the season summaries greatly reduce the character's page, making it easier for someone viewing it to follow. Could you please restore the pages to the way they were, because I don't think episodic summaries are the best option. Thank you. --Skullman1392 23:30, 17 September 2009 (EDT)

  • They're either going to be episodic summaries on the character page or on the archive page. It doesn't make very much sense to archive a character's history if they've only appeared in one season. The point of archiving is to reduce the amount of text on a page from one season in order to make room for a new season. If Rachel continues to appear in the iStories or the episodes or graphic novels, then I'm all for archiving her page. But until then, it doesn't make sense to have a short main page and direct people to a second page to read her history. It's best to keep the history all on one page. Archiving because you don't like episodic histories is not a reason to archive.     • And if someone wants an overview of the character's history, they can't get that? If its archive and someone really really wants to know what happened to a character in every episode, then they have both options. Besides, Rachel's page is obscenely long at this point. And generally, characters who appear in more than on season have at least one season summary on their page (Meredith, Maya, Adam, Monica).       • It sounds like your issue is more with the structure of the pages than with the issue of archiving. Canon or not?

Hello, on the latest iStory, my character Tevor Tanaka was used. I'm slowly starting to help out and edit his Wiki entry but I wanted to run some questions and thoughts by the admins first before jumping in. I created an extensive backstory for the character on the Heroes Survival Game bio section and I did my research to make sure it doesn't contradict anything from the show but integrates well and threw in a cruise ship-load of references. So here's my questions:

1) May I add everything I wrote from the HSG bio, since it's technically canon, now?

2) In the trivia section, I am considering listing all the references I've made to the show, other shows, movies, pop culture, etc. but I'd like some advice/help in devising a proper way to show it all. Mrmichaelt 20:49, 24 September 2009

  • Technically, the information on Heroes: Survival is considered a secondary source. I don't think the admins have ever really gotten together about this issue...but my personal opinion is that since your character was chosen to be in the iStory, we can supplement the info on Trevor Tanaka's page with information Trevor's profile page at H:S. I think the information should stay primarily on Trevor's page and not infiltrate the wiki. That's just my opinion, though, and not an official stance from the administrators.     • Just noticed this message. I agree with Ryan, if a H:S character appears in an iStory or GN, my opinion is that the information from the respective H:S profile should remain primarily on that character's page, and the source noted. My thought is the H:S is a secondary source if the character is used in an iStory/GN, but it isn't necessarily a static source and the content of a H:S profile can change at any time the fan adviser wishes to change it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:45, 3 October 2009 (EDT)

Blocked users userpages

Since there are some users who have been permanently blocked, such as Adamhiro and his sockpuppets, can the sysops delete their pages? They won't be editing them, and they take up space needlessly.   • I am in favor of deleting pages like Adamhiro's. I wouldn't make it a blanket statement or a policy that we always delete all the subpages of every person who is blocked. Editing System messages (German Heroeswiki)

Hi there, I'm an administrator of the german Heroeswiki. I'm trying to edit the templates for new pages, but it doesn't work properly at the moment. I managed to include the whole System Text (newarticletext). Now if I create a new page, the buttons are showing. So far so good. But when I create for example a new Webisode, the "New Webisode" Button isn't showing, just the regular ones (character, events etc....). When I create a new Portal, the corrext Button is showing (only the template there isn't created at the moment). I haven't created all the templates just yet, but the ones for the webisode i did.   • That's because "Webisode" is not a namespace on the German Heroes Wiki, and you've asked that the "Neuewebisodeleiste" template be used only on pages where the namespace is "Webisode". You have two choices--first, you can ask Admin to make "Webisode" a proper namespace instead of just a pseudo namespace (I suggest contacting him directly on his talk page). Second, you can change your code to use the "Neuewebisodeleiste" template on any page that has the name "Webisode" in the title rather than as the namespace. The code would look something like {{#if: {{pos: {{PAGENAME}} | Webisode: }} | {{Neuewebisodeleiste}} }}.
