Messages log at Heroes Wiki?

Is it worth it for us to do like the iStory and log the event and faction messages here? They are currently being archived at 9thwonders.com, but I think that they will eventually expire there. Opinions?--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:08, 6 August 2009 (EDT)

Survival images

For some of the new iStory characters that have crossed over from the Survival game, I've noticed that we are using images from the game for the iStory character profile. So I wanted to give some thoughts on that here.
First, it should be noted that, thus far, none of those images has been used in the iStory. Secondly, the images in the game have been uploaded by users of myNBC.com, not the Evolutions staff so they are not canon images so I don't think we should use them. However, if we do use them and know the user that uploaded them, we should credit him/her if it is their image. Finally, if the user uploaded a real-life image of an actor/actress/other celeb, I do not think we should be using it period as it is not fair-use to use that celebrity's image to portray a character he/she and his/her agent(s) have never even been consulted about. Such images violate the myNBC Terms of Service and are likely to be changed or deleted.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:57, 12 August 2009 (EDT)

Survival abilities

Similar to the situation with Survival images, we are using the description for abilities from the Survival game for the iStory character profiles of the Survival characters that crossover into the iStory. I guess that is okay, but just wanted to give people a heads-up that like the images, the abilities section of a Survival game character is completely user provided and not supplied by the Evolutions staff. Said users/players of the game can change it at any time without penalty during the game.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:05, 12 August 2009 (EDT)

  • Right. I'm getting clarification about this from Joe Tolerico, to see how much of the information they use and how much they don't. For instance, they seem to use a whole lot from Eric Lee Harrison's profile. What does the Heroes creative team consider canon? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:01, 19 August 2009 (EDT)

Survival Characters/Players

Hey. I was just wondering if any of the users have characters that are in Survival? Post below to show support to your character! Josh KorolenkoUTChronicles

Heroes Survival crew

Where should we put crew members who work on Heroes: Survival? Does Portal:Heroes Evolutions Crew work? Any other ideas? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:43, 18 September 2009 (EDT)

  • Yeah, "Portal:Heroes Evolutions Crew" makes the most sense, I think.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:38, 18 September 2009 (EDT)
    • Good. I think I know who the "Game Master" is for Heroes: Survival. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:55, 20 September 2009 (EDT)

Crossover characters...

I'm starting to think that using all of the information from each crossover character's Survival page is a bit extreme. The writers are including the characters, but aren't mentioning their back stories and neither should we. There can be a note about it at the bottom of each page, but we should really only be listing what the iStory tells us. I know it'll be alot of work editing everything, but at least it'll make everything more accurate.--Riddler 19:28, 3 November 2009 (EST)

  • I think its fine to include, as long as the information stays only on that characters page.--Ratclaws 19:40, 3 November 2009 (EST)
    • Draph and all pages he's included on pushed me over the limit. It's just too crazy.--Riddler 20:02, 3 November 2009 (EST)
      • Definitely. I mean, phoenix mimicry? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 10:04, 4 November 2009 (EST)
        • They are really crossing a line here, i mean its just a game isnt it? and then why do they make a character so powerful? --Yoshi n1 10:14, 4 November 2009 (EST)
          • And this one, Josh Davis is also a freakin shape shifter, all these very rare abilities given to people who dont deserve it, and the bad part is, that its just a stupid story.
            • Josh Davis is not a crossover charactor. How many of you who complain about the iStory charactors actually read the iStory? And yeah, I did some complaing earlier about Phoenix mimicry, but thats solved.--Ratclaws 22:56, 4 November 2009 (EST)
  • Not only are the biographies on Heroes: Survival created by fans (and not show writers), but they can theoretically be changed at any time. We should treat these characters the same way we treat any iStory character. Only list information presented in the iStory themselves. --Ricard Desi (t,c) 22:47, 4 November 2009 (EST)
    • Simple solution: just use what is given in the profile when the iStory comes out, and if they change the profile after, we just don't use the new information.--Ratclaws 22:56, 4 November 2009 (EST)
      • No. That would require checking the profiles every day to make sure they haven't changed...and it still doesn't change the fact that the profiles were written by fans, not staff. As one of the staff members who chooses the H:S characters who will cross over, I will point out that we read the information on the page, and we are inspired by it, but it is not canonical information. Only the information in the iStory itself is canonical (or near-canonical). The information in Heroes: Survival can be a secondary source that can provide certain information (like the name of a power or an image of the character)...but the majority of the information from H:S should be relegated to the notes sections, and not the main body of character pages, power pages, or really any other page in the main namespace. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:11, 5 November 2009 (EST)
        • We need to fix alot of stuff. Who's up to the task? D:--Riddler 01:10, 5 November 2009 (EST)
          • Why would that require us to look everyday to find out if it changed? I'm saying just use what is there the when they are used in the iStory, but never any updates after that?--Ratclaws 09:20, 5 November 2009 (EST)

A reset?

is it just me or has the leaderboards and that been reset. I went to my profile today and found all of my characters had a rank of 0, then the urgent request was talking about the world being in confusion. I think this may be a clue to what's going to go on in the rest of Redemption. Does anyone else play heroes survival, and have you experienced this? --mc_hammark 17:38, 18 December 2009 (EST)

  • There was a major glitch the other day. When the tech guys went to fix it, they seem to have erased a bunch of stuff, unfortunately. They're working on restoring everything, but I'm not sure they're having any success. Today's message is a small attempt to explain the glitch from an in-world perspective. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:29, 18 December 2009 (EST)
    • There are also some factions that are doubled, and some of the members/leaders of those factions are able to be ranked but cannot gain any points, so I'm thinking the two issues are connected.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:17, 18 December 2009 (EST)
      • Ah, right. Using the Mulligan message and the world in confusion to explain the confusion, I get it now. But will this have anything to do with the actual show, does anyone know? Or still, as this is secondary source, does it not count? --mc_hammark 13:39, 19 December 2009 (EST)
        • Character profiles on Heroes: Survival are secondary sources. We've never really had a need to distinguish the event messages since no real character history has been advanced through the messages, and no characters have ever really been introduced through the messages. But the messages are written by Zach Wilson, and they go through a very strict approval process (people that see them are Joe Tolerico, Carri Wagner, me, the NBC publicity people, and the NBC tech people). I think it's okay to include the messages as part of the Heroes Evolutions content in cases where the messages are the only source for information. See John Mulligan#Heroes: Survival for an example. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:55, 19 December 2009 (EST)

Characters mentioned in event messages

Shouldn't the above info be mentioned under each characters Heroes:Evolutions section? I don't think any currently are, and the list includes Amber, Claire, The Watcher, Callum, and I think a few others.

  • Yes, such info. can be added, though except for the Mulligan message, there's not much info. to add that isn't already supplied in the iStory.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:00, 19 December 2009 (EST)
    • Right. I'm certainly not opposed to adding information from the event messages...but I think we really only need to when it's new information, unique information, or the first time information is being shared. (See John Mulligan#Heroes:Survival for a good example.) Other than that, if the information is already being shared in an iStory, a graphic novel, or elsewhere, we probably don't need to add a whole new section on a character's page just for an event message or two. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:03, 19 December 2009 (EST)
      • Okay, I put the ones that mention Callum onto his page, what do you guys think? Any suggestions?--Ratclaws 17:23, 19 December 2009 (EST)
        • I modified it some to have a more direct link and to use standard date format that includes the year. I also removed the part about Callum encouraging people to team up. Since that's kind of a given for the game, I don't think it's worth listing.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:56, 19 December 2009 (EST)

Hacked?

I just checked my profile and one of my characters' avatars was changed to someone else's face. Has this happened to anyone else, or was my account hacked, or was it just a glitch? --mc_hammark 12:19, 28 December 2009 (EST)

  • It's a known glitch/bug, not a hacking. Some of the character profiles are occasionally sharing image file locations. You should be able to re-upload your avatar, but it might also be overwriting someone else's character image, so you may want to try and find out whose that is. Also, if you can post your report to the related thread at 9thWonders.com, specifying your character's name and when the bug occurred, that might help the techs who are trying to fix the problem. Thanks!--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:01, 28 December 2009 (EST)

Adding our Survival Characters to the Wiki?

Does anyone else think that we should put our survival characters up on the wiki? I would, but I'm not sure whether or not it is alright.

  • Good call. No, you shouldn't put your HSG characters on the wiki unless they have been featured in an iStory or graphic novel or some other official source. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:41, 17 January 2010 (EST)
  • Darn. I just found out that The Watcher has the power I gave my hero (which took me forever to think of, by the way) and wanted to put my character up on the page for Nerve manipulation. A petty thing, I know, but I thought I'd ask anyways. ^_^ -- User:Cryofthewolf/sig
